Alúmbranos is the debut album of emerging artist Doraliz. Hailing from Puerto Rico, where music is an integral part of Puerto Rican culture, Doraliz grew up living and breathing music. When listening to this album, one can't help but feel enlightened by the artist's unique beats and emotional stories of miraculous life experiences.

Project overview

As the sole designer for this project, I worked closely with the client throughout the entire process to ensure I understood her vision so that I could bring it to life. Applied to the album's logo, cover, disc, website, and apparel, we created a modern brand, which reflected not only the artist's personality but her style of music as well.

Since the artist's music is faith-based, we wanted to create a symbol that represented faith, beginnings, and the power music has in healing and uniting. After multiple logo concepts, we decided to combine an 'A' (representation of Alúmbranos, and beginnings), the strings from a guitar (representation of her instrument), and the triangle (representation of strength, power, and unity).

To create the album's disk design, I turned to abstract photography, a distinctive type of photography often incorporating motion and camera to create and capture art. Visually, Doraliz wanted to convey the message of beginnings and enlightenment. Using a technique called Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), combined with various exposure times and editing processes, I was able to take a photograph that we believe delivered the intended message while immersing the viewer into a visually and emotionally engaging experience.

Project results

Alúmbranos was an enjoyable project, ending with at least half a dozen logos and album design concepts, all equally as strong and meaningful as the next. In the end, the client had to decide for herself, and we were both thrilled with the outcome.
